Canadian Contemporary Abstract Artist - Victoria Jordan
Art for sale - Original works of art with a contemporary focus to blending acrylics, oils, cold wax and collage on a variety of media including paper, artist board and canvas.
My career has spanned many disciplines but I originally started out in the Biological Sciences working as a Research Assistant, then Scientist in Genetics, Molecular Biology and Environmental Microbiology laboratories. For this reason, you'll recognize that many of my works will incorporate biological patterns or something you would expect to see under microscopes or through biological devices. It's a fusion of art and science which gives the observer a unique viewpoint into the biological world without the fuss of a lab bench or the exposure of the chemical tools.
From there, I moved into Medical Imaging and IT - never straying far from technology but always seeing things through a creative filter. It allowed me to see issues pre-emptively, alert the right people, and give my thoughts for possible creative resolutions. And then come home to paint possibilities on various substrates - some successfully and some not!
I have a curiosity for trying new methods or techniques, following the process intuitively and don't always like the product at the end - but the process is what drives me. I'm always surprised by what appears at the end of the paintbrush...
I never find myself without inspiration. I spend a lot of time outside - gardening with my partner Joel, taking my dogs Livy and Zoey for a walk at the nearby park, lounging on the deck with my three teenagers or picking berries. I read the "Zen of Seeing" by Frederick Franck many years ago - it's amazing! And will show you how to properly look at the beauty of a single ripe cherry tomato or the perfection of a honeysuckle flower.
I invite you to take a look at my works, pause over what you see, and reach out with your thoughts as to what peers back at you. I'm always interested to hear what a viewer sees in my work!
